In any type and size of fish pond, filtration is the ‘heart’ to the entire pond. In wild-life fish pond, filtration exists in the most natural form – we sometime called it ‘Mother Nature’. However, we often notice that fish stocking level is very low, this we might call it as ‘survivor of the fittest’.
In modern days, when we want to have a populated fish aquarium for the purpose of appreciation and stress management therapy or purely for Feng Shui purpose, Mother Nature eco-system is no longer reliable, as we often would like to increase the fish stock level and to improve the quality of the fish in term of growth rate and colour.
In order to do these, we need to learn from Mother Nature, but at the same time we improve it – The Eco-friendly Nitrogen Cycle!
Ocean Life International’s Filtration design is a 5-in-1 system, the most complete and concise system in the market to handle highly populated fish pond, even Koi and Goldfish. Most of these filter mediums are very long lasting, could be up to five years. (The following descriptions and suggestions are subject to design, size and volume of the fish pond, customers’ budget and other factors)
Mechanical Filtration
1. Filter brush, and Matting to trap large particles and waste from the pond without clogging the filtration system. These mediums are easy to clean and need to be cleaned often.
Biological Filtration
1. Coral stone, Sea shell and Lava rock are use to maintain the ph level at a more alkaline – 8.0 to 9.0.
2. Bio Glass ring, Screw ring or ‘filtroc’ (Filtroc is a sintered glass medium with many thousands of microscopic cavities) and Aqua-clay are use to allow Anaerobic bacteria (beneficial bacteria that grow in the water) to colonise to the maximum surface of the rings. These bacteria are the major agent in converting Ammonia to Nitrite and then converting Nitrite to a less harmful Nitrate.
3. Nitrate can be use for plant fertilizer.
Chemical Filtration
1. Activated Carbon and Bio-enzymes are use to remove excessive nitrogen gas, a toxic gas to the fish, which will be release from over-stocking of Nitrate, chlorides, organic and metal compounds.
Trickling Tower Filtration
1. A four level trays of hollow base at each level fills with Bio-Ball, which is use to break down nitrogen gas and with aerobic bacteria (beneficial bacteria that grow outside of the water) it will increase oxygenation in the water.
Plants Filtration
1. A range of plants for customers to choose from to be placed at the right position of the pond and water features. This would make easy for the plants to grow with maximum exposure to ammonia which is fertilizer to these plants.
OLI filtration system encompasses the following comprehensive features:
1. Auto water change two times per day for 10 min each time
2. This water is pump from the first two chambers of the filtration where most waste and dirt gathered.
3. This water is use for watering the plants surrounding the fish pond.
4. The waste and dirt from the water is then being the fertilizer to the plants.
5. Auto clean water refills each time auto water change.
6. At least four drainages from the pond base and a surface skimmer to the first chamber of the filtration.
7. At least three inflows of filtered water back to the pond.
8. All filtered water will pass through 36 watts of Ultraviolet (UV) Sterilizer. A most effective and powerful form of long term algae preventive measure.
9. A powerful air pump will be used to release oxygen into the last three chambers of the filtration system.
10. Measure at the right water level, we will install a 24 hours water overflow and this is to create constant flow of water surface’s dirt gather from the air and oil from fish food.
Experienced OLI pond and water features team would be happily welcoming your enquiries on any matters you might have.
